Woolshed Coffee Co., a groovy little spot for all things caffeinated, has been quietly thriving in an unlikely Toronto spot.
Tucked away on Adelaide St. between the bustling areas of Queen and King St. West, you’ll find a garage door amidst Insta-worthy murals, where Matthew Donovan has been operating his hotspot for the past year.
Sneak into the hallway next to their walk-up counter for a hidden seat inside.
Toronto coffee lovers may be familiar with the space already, as it was previously Tokyo Smoke‘s original location back when the cannabis shop operated as a café as well.
Matthew himself happens to be pretty familiar with the place, too, as he was the manager for Tokyo Smoke’s coffee program.
When Tokyo Smoke’s parent company pivoted to a cannabis-only provider and vacated the space, Matthew decided to seek out his own coffee shop to open.

And, as it turned out, the perfect location was right back where his foray into coffee started.
Inspired by the thoughtful and adventurous coffee culture of Australia, Woolshed Coffee Co. is serving up both true-to-form beverages, as well as unique seasonal takes.
Seasonal Ube Latte, a blend of ube extract and hojicha.
On the menu currently are specialty items such as the ‘Bae Latte’ ($6) featuring hojicha, condensed milk, and ube extract.
The sweet ube gives the drink its stunning purple colour, but barista and drink creator Akira insists you can’t fall prey to its beauty – the drink must be mixed!
Seasonal tangy Rhubarb Lemonade.
For a non-caffeinated refresher, Woolshed has a Rhubarb Lemonade ($6) up for grabs, with house-made rhubarb tea, lemonade, and a little rhubarb jam for a funky texture.
The consideration that Matthew and his team put into their offerings go beyond what the eye can see.
The single-origin coffee beans used in-house rotate frequently. Right now, you’ll find local Pilot Coffee available, but Matthew aims to bring in foreign roasters from outside of Canada in the near future.
Beans (and much more) are available for purchase on their retail shelves.
All of their hand-selected goodies can be enjoyed on Woolshed’s front picnic benches — ideal for cute dog spotting.
Local spot Breadhead provides goodies like croissants and sausage rolls; Circles & Squares provides muffins and energy bars.
For cooler days, their woodsy and industrial interior is perfect, with Wes Anderson movies projected on the wall and an array of knickknacks galore – like visiting a very cool person’s very cool loft apartment.
