In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, players can embark on various side adventures while exploring the vast land of Hyrule. Many of these quests can be initiated by interacting with fellow travelers on their own journeys, or by encountering individuals at places like stables and larger settlements. However, a few side adventures begin when players discover certain objects scattered throughout the world. “A Bottled Cry” is one such adventure, and here is a guide on how to start and complete it in Tears of the Kingdom.
Starting The “A Bottled Cry for Help” Quest
The side adventure “A Bottled Cry For Help” starts at a message in a bottle located in the water at the coast between Kitano Bay and Hateno Bay, at the end of a road heading directly south. The closest shrine to fast travel and reach this area is Mayahisik Shrine, located just south of the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. From here, follow the road south to the beach. There, the player will come across a lot of wreckage from a crashed ship, with various destroyed cargo and weapons scattered all around.
On the shore, the player will find multiple usable wooden planks and logs, as well as three Zonai devices: a Battery, a Fan, and a Steering Stick. In the water, the player can spot three floating Brightbloom Seeds. Just behind these seeds, the player will discover the message in a bottle at coordinates (3945, -2509, 0000). Interact with the bottle to read the letter it contains.
The letter reveals that a fisherman got caught in a storm and sought refuge in a cave. Unfortunately, a rock fell during the storm, which trapped him inside. The fisherman managed to send the bottle and some Brightbloom Seeds out of the cave, and asked that anyone who finds the letter to follow a trail of Brightblooms to locate the cave.
Reaching Mapla Point Cave
By Sea
Past the wreckage, the player can see the faint light of Brightblooms leading out into the ocean and to the east. Reaching the cave will require a fair amount of travel, so the player should construct a powered raft using the available Zonai devices to reach the island. First, the player can head to a small unnamed island located at coordinates (4212, -2817, 0001). Here, they will find an additional battery that can be added to their raft if needed.
Continue east across the water, passing both Hateno Bay and Deepback Bay. Goi around the bottom of Mapla Point to reach the eastern side of the continent, just southeast of the label for “Solewood Range” on the map. In this area, the player will come across a cluster of tiny, unnamed islands. Between these islands and in the side of the cliff, at coordinates (4592, -2242, 0009), they will find a large cave entrance with a strong current flowing out of it.
By Land
Alternatively, if the player has unlocked the Anedamimik Shrine, they can fast travel to this shrine and use Ascend to get out of the underground cave. Once on the surface, the player can head east directly across the Solewood Range to reach their destination.
When the player arrives at the cave entrance with coordinates (4592, -2242, 0009), they should drop into the water near the southeastern side of the entrance. They can then swim into the cave and discover Mapla Point Cave, reaching shallow water and land quickly.
Rescuing Chumin, The Trapped Fisherman
Inside the cave, the player will find Brightblooms spread throughout, a small boat on the shore, and numerous mineral veins. By following the shore from where the small boat is docked, the player will come across a small cave opening blocked by a boulder. Use Ultrahand to remove the boulder from the entrance and enter the cave.
Inside, Link will find Chumin, the trapped fisherman. Chumin expresses gratitude to Link for rescuing him and rewards him with 100 Rupees. He also suggests that if they ever meet again, the player should buy some fish from him.
Once Chumin is freed, be sure to fully explore the cave. There are a ton of materials to gather, including Brightbloom Seeds, Brightcaps, Hearty Truffles, Bomb Flowers, and a ton of mineral veins that can drop flint, rock salt, and gemstones. On the shore opposite the boat, the player should look up at the wall, and they will spot another opening leading deeper into the cave. Climb the wall here to reach a larger cave housing the cave’s Bubbulfrog, which they should defeat to collect its Bubbulgem.
