UTICA — Some might argue it’s the best part of Boilermaker Weekend — the Saranac Post-Race Party.
Every year, the post-race party closes out the events that take place during Boilermaker Weekend, allowing runners, walkers and spectators alike to revel in the celebrations and accomplishments of participants.
With music, beer and a huge crowd of people who look forward to the party every year, Boilermaker officials say the post-race party “sets the standard for post-race celebrations in the U.S.”
The 2023 Saranac Post-Race Party will run from 8 a.m. to noon at the F.X. Matt Brewing Company, 900 Columbia St., adjacent to the Boilermaker finish line. The convenient location brings people to the party, but Boilermaker participants and spectators say it’s the musical entertainment and free beer that keep them there.
Local band Showtime and Friends will provide the musical entertainment and Utica Club will once again be the official beer, but will be accompanied by Saranac Spiked Green Tea Seltzer for those who are looking for an alternative — a first for the post-race party.
“After last year’s race, we sent our runners a survey and many of the respondents were asking for a gluten-free alternative to beer,” Boilermaker Road Race’s Marketing Manager Scott Gwilt said. “We talked to our friends at the F.X. Matt Brewery as we began planning the race, and they agreed to provide the spiked green tea seltzers and as we’ve begun sharing this story, it’s been met with a very positive response.”
Several food trucks will line up along Columbia Street near the party, giving partygoers an option for anyone who is looking to purchase food during the event.
Due to the proximity to the finish line and the closed-off streets surrounding the area, finding parking for the party is expected to be a difficult task. Boilermaker officials suggest checking parking options early, as the limited available space is expected to fill fast.
